Prediction markets in Japan
Of the 23 platforms we review, 9 are open to residents of Japan, 1 with restrictions and 4 exclude them. For 9 the published terms do not say either way.
The Penal Code prohibits gambling outside state-sanctioned categories, and the FSA supervises financial derivatives. Some platforms restrict Japan or limit it to closing positions.

Japan is not on the Member Agreement's Restricted Jurisdictions list, and the help centre says you can trade on Kalshi from many countries outside the US. International users fund with debit card, wire or crypto only (no ACH, PayPal or Venmo). Still subject to the agreement's general applicable-law clause.

Manifold is play money only: mana cannot be cashed out (Terms updated 31 Jan 2026). This country is not on the ineligible list in the Prize Drawing Official Rules (3 Feb 2026), so residents aged 18+ can also enter prize drawings.
Not on the Real-Money Services restricted list in the Terms (updated 24 Jan 2025), so real-money (USDC/crypto) and play-money markets are open to residents 18+. Futuur may still refuse other countries at its discretion.
Not on the Terms' list of barred residences (Afghanistan, Cuba, DRC, Iran, Russia, Syria, etc.). Users must be 18+ and may not use the service where crypto use is prohibited.

The help centre says Prediction Trading is available in the United States only.
Participation is limited to U.S. Persons, defined as a US citizen living anywhere or a resident alien. Residents who are not US citizens are excluded; US citizens living here would still qualify.
Users must be physically located in a US state, Washington DC or a US territory to use DraftKings Predictions.

- Can residents of Japan use Kalshi?
- Yes. According to Kalshi’s own terms, residents of Japan can use it. - No. FanDuel Predicts’s terms exclude residents of Japan. FanDuel Predicts can only be used from eligible U.S. locations, based on geolocation.

- We have not been able to verify it: Interactive Brokers ForecastTrader’s published terms do not settle the question for Japan.
