Are prediction markets legal in Rhode Island?

Contested. Rhode Island’s Attorney General sued Kalshi and Polymarket US in May 2026, alleging their sports contracts are illegal gambling; Kalshi sued state officials in federal court the same day, and the federal government moved to join on Kalshi’s side. Sports betting is legal through the state-run Rhode Island Lottery.
